What should be the correct diet for domestic cows?
6/21/2026
The quality and quantity of a cow's milk depends largely on its diet. We are sharing our experience on proper food management.
Importance of raw grass
Fresh grass should be a major part of a cow's diet. Regular provision of high-nutrient grass like Napier grass improves both the quantity and quality of milk.
Hay and dry feed
In addition to raw grass, it is important to provide dry hay, which plays a helpful role in the cow's digestive process.
Granular feed
Grainal feed like husk, chaff, and kheil helps in increasing the cow's energy and milk production. However, its quantity should be adjusted according to the cow's physical condition.
Water supply
It is important to always keep clean water readily available. Lack of water has a direct negative impact on milk production.
Minerals and vitamins
Providing the necessary mineral mixture along with regular feed is beneficial for the overall health of the cow, especially during milking.
Our Approach
On our farm, we rely heavily on our own grown Napier grass, which reduces feed costs and ensures fresh food.
