Desi Chicken vs Broiler — Difference and Which One to Choose

The first question that comes to mind when you want to start raising chickens is - Desi or Broiler? Knowing the difference between the two makes it easier to make the right decision.
Growth rate
Broiler chickens grow very quickly, usually becoming suitable for sale in 5-6 weeks. Desi chickens take longer to grow, it can take up to a few months.
Taste and quality
Desi chicken meat is relatively tough but much richer in flavor, and its demand is always higher in the market. Broiler meat is softer, but does not come close to Desi chicken in flavor.
Care and cost
Broiler farming requires controlled food and environment, and the cost is also high. Desi chickens can grow up with relatively little care, grazing freely, which is convenient for small-scale family farms.
Disease resistance
Desi chickens have relatively high natural disease resistance, whereas broilers need to be vaccinated and cared for regularly.
Which one to choose
If you want quick profits, it is better to choose broiler, and for long-term quality and local taste, it is better to choose domestic chicken. Many farmers are also working profitably with a combination of the two.
