Seasonal crop planning for farmers in Sirajganj

6/21/2026

To get the maximum yield from the land throughout the year, it is important to know when to cultivate which crop. Here is a general seasonal plan from the practical experience of our farm. Kharip season (Baishakh-Ashwin, April-October) There is more rainfall during this time, so water-tolerant crops are good. Aman rice is the main crop of this season. Along with gourd, dhundal, and lentil also give good yields during this time. Rabi season (Kartik-Chaitra, November-March) Mustard, wheat, potato, tomato, brinjal, and beans - these crops are good during this winter season. Our farm mainly emphasizes mustard cultivation during this time, because both oil and honey are obtained from it. Importance of crop rotation Cultivating the same crop repeatedly on the same land reduces the specific nutrient content of the soil and increases the attack of diseases and pests. We try to change crops every season - for example, mustard in the Rabi season, followed by vegetables in the Kharip season. Grass cultivation for animal feed For our animal husbandry needs, we also cultivate Napier grass on a separate plot of land, which can be harvested all year round and provides nutritious food for the animals. Why planning is important Planning and cultivating in advance allows for timely arrangements for fertilizers, seeds, labor - and increases the chances of getting a good price in the market when the produce is sold.
